Harvesting Winter Rye

Today I started cutting down the winter rye in preparation of planting the summer veggie crops. The winter rye roots hold lots of nitrogen, that will be used by the summer crops. And the green rye stalks will suppress weeds in these beds and other beds as well as add to the soil as they decompose. Lovely cool day for this task.

Don’t forget: the market stand is open all this week 4 to 6 PM. Fresh GBF asparagus and eggs!
